Sapporo

The capital city of Hokkaido. Sapporo is a very new city, and it shows. Like elsewhere in Hokkaido it is quite car-centric, which is a lot less enjoyable to walk around in than Tokyo. However the city is quite fun.

We spent a night here on the way to Daisetsuzan, and had time for one (1) beer only at the famous Sapporo Beer Festival. It was intended to come back for more after the hike, but we got our dates wrong, and by then it had finished.

Odori Park is a long linear park in the centre of town. The actual Odori Avenue continues all the way to the edge of town in the west.

The former Sapporo brewery, now a shopping centre.

Barbecue under the TV tower. Not as good as the beer festival, but pretty similar vibe to be honest.

A small temple in Maruyama park.

Sapporo hosted the winter Olympics in 1972. They have a museum at tke ski jump centre.

The ski jump is pretty scary.

Good views over town.

The mascots are among the best of the olympic mascots in our humble opinion.
